ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Established in the year 1998, the department of Petrochemical Engineering, Nandha Polytechnic College, Erode – 52 is regarded as one of the premier centre for Petrochemical Engineering in Tamil Nadu (India) by industries as well as academia. Department of petrochemical engineering is committed to impart knowledge to students at all levels through a vibrant, dynamic and state of art intellectual which delivers to ensure the creation of a complete petrochemical engineer with high sense of social responsibilities. Nearly all major companies in India including multinational companies with a global foot print have visited Nandha Polytechnic College for student’s placement.
Corporate India has made its foray in taking notice of the value based education which students receive at Nandha Polytechnic College. The discipline of Petrochemical Engineering embraces those industries in which matter is treated to effect a change of state, energy content (or) composition etc. The concerned petrochemical engineering diploma holders in these industries are recruited under various positions from production to management.
Petrochemical Engineering department was started in the year 1998.so far 2026 batch students were passed out from our college.the Alumnis students of petrochemical Engg is working with good salary in countries like Saudi Arabia ,Qatar,oman,Bahrain,Iraq. Petrochemical Engg is having wide in scope,oil Refining ,drilling,fertilizer industry, pharma sector etc..
COURSE CURRICULUM
The petrochemical Engineering is a three year course having subjects that covers the industrial needs of the present scenario. The course offers good placements in the industries like Spic, Tuticorin, Tamilnadu Petro Produts Ltd, Orchid Chemicals, Etc….

LAB VIEW:
MOMENTUM TRANSFER LABORATORY
Momentum Transfer Lab has been to conduct the flow experiments in Orifice & Venturimeter, and to find flow characteristics of water through Packed and Fluidized columns. Also find the performance characteristics of Centrifugal pump.
DISTILLATE TESTING LABORATORY
Distillate testing lab has been testing of petroleum products like Gasoline, Kerosene, Diesel, Lubricating oil. It gives the aware of the tests carried in Refinery, also the important testing equipments like Aniline point, Bromine number, ASTM distillation & Refractive index for Aromatics.

HEAT TRANSFER LABORATORY
Heat Transfer Lab has been given the knowledge of various heating process and heating equipments in the chemical industries. Also have sound Knowledge about Conduction, Convection & Radiation Followed in Chemical industries.

MASS TRANSFER LABORATORY
Mass Transfer Lab has been Finding of Phase Changes like (Liquid to Gas, Solid to Liquid), mass transfer in distillation column, Absorber, Crystallizer in Chemical industries. Also have sound Knowledge on Simple distillation, Steam Distillation Followed in Refinery & Petrochemical industries.
PROCESS INSTRUMENTATION & CONTROL LABORATORY
Instrumentation And Control has been measuring of Temperature, Pressure, Level meters have been measured in chemical industries. It gives the aware of Computer control of process variables.

MECHANICAL OPERATIONS LAB :
Mechanical Operations Lab in Petrocheical \ Chemical engineering focuses on physical (mechanical) processes for handling and modifying solid/fluid particles without altering their chemical composition. Key areas include size reduction (crushing/grinding), size separation (screening/sieving), fluid-solid separation (filtration/sedimentation/cyclones), and mixing. These operations are essential in mining, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.

ACTIVITIES 2025-2026
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (FDP):
Mr. G. Munusamy, HOD of the Petrochemical Engineering department, participated in a six-day Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy FDP hosted by Er. Perumal Manimekalai Polytechnic College from July 14, 2025, to July 19, 2025.

Mr. P. Logu Prasanth, Lecturer in Petrochemical Engineering, attended a six-day FDP on “Digital Modeling, Simulation, and AI Integration for Smart Manufacturing and Industry 4.0” at Kongu Engineering College from November 24, 2025, to November 29, 2025.

CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM:
A specialized session was jointly organized by T.D. Santhi, District Employment Officer of Erode, and K. Narendra Kumar, Young Professional of Erode, for second and third-year students on July 1, 2025.

INDUSTRIAL SEMINAR I:
The Petrochemical and Mechanical Engineering departments hosted an industrial seminar titled “Briefly About Non-Destructive Testing, Oil, and Gas Construction Fields,” featuring Mr. C. Vigneshwaran, Director of Advanced Quality Center, Coimbatore, as the keynote speaker on July 14, 2025.

ALUMNI INTERACTION I:
The department hosted its first Alumni Interaction session on June 17, 2025, featuring Mr. Marsh Lenin (Class of 2022), who shared his professional experiences from Singapore.

ACADEMIC SEMINAR I:
An academic seminar focusing on “Compressed Natural Gas” was organized by the department. Expert Address: Dr. P. Akilamudian, HOD of Chemical Engineering at Erode Sengunthar Engineering College, addressed 60 participating students on August 19, 2025.

ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION:
The department’s association was officially inaugurated on August 20, 2025, with a guest lecture by Mr. Monishkumar Jegannathan, Head of R&D Mechanical at OZOTEC Automobile Pvt Limited, Coimbatore.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT:
Students and faculty members from the department conducted an educational visit to the Kannan Devan Tea Factory. Visit Impact: On August 22, 2025, a total of 50 students and 3 faculty members participated in and benefited from this field trip.

PARENTS’ MEETING:
The PCE Department held a formal meeting for the parents of all second and third-year students on September 12, 2025. Participation: The event saw active involvement from the parents of 56 students.

BIS CLUB ACTIVITY (ORIENTATION):
An orientation and awareness program for the BIS Standards Club was conducted on September 20, 2025, led by Mr. K. Nirmal, Founder of Towards the Change Foundation and BIS District Resource Person.Student Engagement: 40 students participated in and benefited from this awareness session.

BIS CLUB ACTIVITY (FIELD VISIT):
On December 16, 2025, a group of 25 students visited Green HI-TECH Solution in Nasiyanur, an excursion organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards, Coimbatore.
