About the Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is functioning with 180 Students Intake. It started in the year 1998. Department has been Accredited by NBA council, New Delhi. We hold the well equipped Special Machines Lab, Lathe Shop, Work Shop Practice Lab, Civil Lab, Thermal Lab, Pneumatics & Hydraulics Lab, Automobile Lab, and CAD/CAM & CNC Centers. All these laboratories were established as per Engineering Standards with well Experienced Instructors & Technical Assistants. The department is well known for its Academic, Non Academic (co-curricular & extra curricular) Activities for the up-gradation of students & staffs skills to meet the Global trends and industrial challenges.

Lathe Section has various types of lathes such as All Geared Lathe, Turret Lathe, Capstan Lathe, Cone Pulley Lathe. Training is given to the students in a professional manner so as to get more practical knowledge.
Special Machines Lab
Our department has a well equipped Machine Shop with excellent production machineries like Planning Machine, Shaping Machine, Slotting Machine, Cylindrical Grinding Machine, Surface Grinding Machine, Tool and Cutter Grinder, Universal Milling. Machine and Radial Drilling Machine.
Work Shop Practice Lab
Work Shop Practice Lab has three divisions exercise such as Foundry, Welding and Smithy
Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Lab
Our Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Machinery lab is well equipped with Bernoulli’s Theorem Verification Apparatus, Orifice Meter Apparatus, Venturi Meter Apparatus, Orifice and Mouth Piece Apparatus, Pipe Friction Apparatus, Centrifugal Pump, Reciprocating Pump, Jet Pump Test Rig, Pelton Wheel, Pneumatic and Hydraulic Kit.
Thermal Engineering Lab
Thermal Laboratory is equipped to meet the basic requirements of the students. It has Engine Cut Sections, Air Compressor Test Rig, I.C. Engine Test Rig, Morse Test Rig, Visco Meter, Flash and Fire Point Equipments, Bomb Calorimeter which imparts the knowledge about performance, characteristics of Diesel and Petrol Engines.
Automobile Lab
We have well equipped Automobile Lab with various types of I.C. Engines Cut Section, different types of Gear Box, Propeller Shaft Assembly, Differential, Brake Drum etc. These are demonstrated to the students to improve their knowledge in this field.
Metrology & Machine Tool Maintenance
Our department has well equipped Metrology Lab to make the various measurements. Modern types of instruments are introduced to improve the knowledge of the students. The following metrology equipments are available: Vernier Height Gauge, Digital Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Depth Gauge, Digital Micrometer, Sine Bar, Bevel Protractor, Slip Gauges, Mechanical Comparator and Pneumatic Comparator etc.
Mechanics of Materials Lab
Mechanics of Material lab is well equipped with Universal Testing Machine, Impact Testing Machine, Hardness Testing Machine, Spring Testing Machine, Torsion Testing Machine and Shear Testing Machine.
CAD/CAM & CNC Centre
Computer Aided Design & Manufacturing Lab have more than 50 numbers of systems for designing the machine component and simulating the programs for our requirement. Practice on CAD commands for 3D drawings, practiced on Solid Rendering, produce parts in CNC Lathe and Milling Machine.

- Department of Mechanical engineering organized a motivational program on “MAYAJALAM” through JCI Erode Galaxy Wing on 28/07/2022. JC PRATHAP CHANDRASEKAR, HR Manager, Ortho Life Hospital, Erode was invited as a motivational speaker. He delivered on the requirement of Academics, need of studies and co-curricular activities.

- Department of Mechanical engineering organized a “BLOOD DONATION CAMP” through LEO Club Erode on 30/08/2022. Lion. MJF. Palaniyandi District Chair Person Leo Club was inaugurated the camp 26 donors were participated in that camp.
- Department of Mechanical Engineering, LEO club Erode, and JCI jointly organized cleaning work in CHENNIMALAI MURUGAN TEMPLE for the Car festival on 11-01-2023. In that work 50 students were eagerly participated and 1330 steps were cleaned, and remove the plastic wastage.
- Department of Mechanical Engineering, LEO club Erode, JCI Erode Super Kings jointly organized a rally on “Voters Awareness” in Erode East Constituency on 24/02/2023. In that rally 50 students from various departments were participated and distributed Awareness Notice to the public.
INDRA DEPARTMENT COMPETITION
- Our mechanical department was conducted a “Cross word Competition” on 27/08/2022 as an intra department level competition.

Our department students ESWARAN M and DHANAYENDHIRA PRABHU P, III year has won 3rd Prize for PAPER PRESENTATION @ MET FEST 2K23 at SAKTHI POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE, SAKTHI NAGAR on 21/03/2023.
Our department students HONESTRAJ and RISIRAM R, II year has won 3rd Prize for PROJECT EXPO “IGNITER – 2K23 at SAKTHI POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE, SAKTHI NAGAR on 13/03/2023.
Our department students Eswaran M and Dhanayendhira Prabhu P, Syed Basheer J, Gopala krishnan R from III year has participated in PROJECT EXPO at Builders Engineering College, Kankeyam on 15/10/2022.
Our department students Tamizharasan R and Meiyarasu A III year has participated in PAPER PRESENTATION at National Level Technical Symposium held Kongu Polytechnic College, Erode on 04/02/2023.
Our department students has participated for Mushroom Cultivation Training at Nandha Polytechnic College, Erode on 04/02/2023. 5 students were participated and learnt about cultivation methods, sales and marketing of Mushrooms.

Our department student Risiram R and Balasubramaniyam R II year has attended “EDP awareness program” at Kongu Polytechnic College, Erode on 23/01/2023.
NANDHA’S INNOVATION DAY:
In the event Nandha’s Innivation Day held in our campus from 16/02/2023 to 18/02/2023. In the program Mr. Perumal, Principal of Govt. Polytechnic College, Perundurai invited as the Chief Guest. Our Mechanical engineering students has totally displayed 14 projects and won prizes for their innovative thoughts.

Our department has conducted an Alumni interaction on 12/09/2022.This function was addressed by Mr. Nandha Kishore A, Draftsman, NCR Pvt ltd Chennai, alumni of 2016-2019 Batch. III and II Year students were benefited about drawing in that interaction.

Our department has conducted an Alumni interaction on 15/09/2022. This function was addressed by Mr. NAVIN T, Quality Engineer, Minta Casting, Hosur, alumni of 2017-2019 Batch. III and II Year students were clarified about New Casting Methods following in Industries.

PARENTS MEETING:
Our department has conducted Parents meeting for I, II & III Year Mechanical Students on 30/09/2022. Totally 126 Parents have visited and Consulted about the student’s academic performance in that parents meeting.
Our department has conducted Parents meeting at Tirupur for I, II & III Year Mechanical Students on 23/02/2023. Totally 60 Parents have visited in that parents meeting.
Our department has conducted Parents meeting at NPC erode for I, II & III Year mechanical Students on 04/03/2023. Totally 70 Parents have visited in that parents meeting.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT, INTERNSHIP TRAINING AND TOUR
INDUSTRIAL VISIT:
Our students were encouraged with industrial knowledge by visiting the company Sree Rengarajan Ispat Industries (p) Ltd, Sip-cot Industrial Growth Centre, Perundurai. Totally 90 students and 4 faculty members visited the company on 15/10/2022.
TOUR:
Our department has organized one day tour for kerala. They have visited Chottani Karai Bagavathi Amman Temple, Wonderla, and DJ boating on 24/03/2023.
FACULTIES INDUSTRIAL VISIT:
Our Nandha Polytechnic College 45 Faculties visited Koodankulam Atomic Power Plant, thoothukudion 18/08/2022. In that event 9 faculty members from our department have visited.
INTERNSHIP TRAINING
Harish R, Rameshkumar K, Vibhakar M and Nishanth K from III year of our department were gone to internship training in Sakthi Auto Components, Pallagoundanpalayam, With Rs. 10000 per month stipend.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
- Prabhakaran B, Lect/Mech, Sivaprakasu N, Lect/Mech and Govarthan S, Lect/Mech were presented a paper in 9th ISTE FACULTY CONVENTION on the topic of “EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES And REALIABILITIES IN TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS” held at KSR Institutions, Thiruchencode on 14/10/2022.
- Palanisamy M, Hod/Mech, Chandran S S.Lect/Mech, Kumarasen V Lect/Mech, Prabhakaran B, Lect/Mech, Sivaprakasu N, Lect/Mech, Sundaram S Lect/Mech, and Govarthan S Lect/Mech ,were attended faculty development program entitled “ADVANCE MANUFACTURING PROCESS” Organized by Sri Ranganathar Institute of Polytechnic College, Coimbatore. from 17/03/2023 to 18/03/2023.
- Chandran S Senior Lect/Mech has completed his NPTEL course on the topic of “INSPECTION AND QUALITY CONTROL IN MANUFACTURING” Organized by IIT- Roorkee for the duration of 4 week from 23/01/2023 to 17/02/2023 and attended the NPTEL exam on 26/03/2023
Opportunities
Mechanical Engineering finds application in all fields of technology. It is one of the primitive branches of Engineering which have remained always in demand and continue to be in the future. This is why Mechanical trade is called as an Evergreen trade (branch). Mechanical engineers have always been needed as an essential staff personnel in various industries of both public and private sector. Their work criteria changes according to the type and domain of the company they are working with.As the Industrial sector has drastically risen in pace, the need for more mechanical engineers has increased exponentially. Every manufacturing and production industry needs mechanical engineers to carry out jobs efficiently and flawlessly for their companies.
